1961 Golden Press Hall of Fame Babe Ruth #3 New York Yankees Punch Out Card
Babe Ruth from the 1961 Golden Press Hall of Fame Baseball Stars set, card #3 — one of the more unusual and charming vintage issues out there.
These 33 cards weren't sold in packs. They came bound in a booklet marketed as "Golden Funtime Trading Cards" that cost 29 cents, with perforated edges so kids could punch each card out. Ruth appeared on the front cover alongside Mel Ott and Grover Cleveland Alexander, which makes the cover trio the toughest cards in the set to find well preserved — they absorbed the handling before the booklet was ever opened.
The front shows a full-color image of Ruth mid-swing at the ballpark, colorized in the bright style the set is known for. The back carries his lifetime record — 2,503 games, 714 home runs, 2,209 RBI, a .342 average — and notes his 60-homer season in 1927, his start as a Red Sox pitcher with 29 scoreless World Series innings, and his 1920 sale to the Yankees for a record $125,000.
